Committees

Committees are divided into two categories, General Assemblies, and Crisis. General Assembly Committees are realistic simulations of the UN, while Crisis Committees are fast-paced simulations of real, historical, or fictional crises. This year, GSMUNC is a crisis-heavy conference.  We have one General Assembly, one Novice Crisis, one Historical Crisis, and two Joint Crisis Committees.

General Assembly - UNHRC

Blood diamonds are diamonds possessed in a known warzone and illegally sold to fuel wars against regional bureaucracies. The methods of obtaining these diamonds both violate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and implement forced labor systems. A majority of blood diamonds originate in the African Continent for two major reasons: environmental conditions and socio-political instability. In this committee, delegates will debate the restructuring of political systems, the reinforcement of existing legislation, and the implementation of new protective regulations. Additionally, delegates will create complex yet feasible solutions to navigate toward a safer, more holistic diamond trade.

Novice Crisis - Time Variance Authority

“Long ago, there was a vast Multiversal War. Countless timelines battled each for supremacy, nearly resulting in annihilation. But then, the omnipotent Time-Keepers emerged, bringing peace by reorganizing the multiverse into a single, Sacred Timeline.”

Or so we’re told.

Because now, with the Time-Keepers exposed as nothing but puppets and the Temporal Loom crumbling under the weight of branching timelines, the Time Variance Authority faces an existential crisis. As delegates, you have convened to address the urgency of the TVA’s future, and the state of the rapidly-branching timelines – and whether we should save or destroy the TVA.

Historical Crisis - British House of Commons

It's 1982, and tensions brew between Argentina and Great Britain as a century-old dispute over a pair of islands reaches its peak. Acting on an American-backed dictatorship's orders, Argentinian forces storm the Falklands. Despite Parliament scaling back military spending, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is gung-ho for war, determined to safeguard British supremacy globally. Today, the House of Commons emerges as the pivotal decision-maker on the fate of the Falklands—whether to defend the islands or relinquish control. GSMUNC proudly introduces a committee echoing the real-world Parliament's procedures, allowing delegates to engage in debates within a system that echoes governmental practices worldwide—an embodiment of Republican Democracy.

JCC - Federal Bureau of Investigation

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation must collaborate to formulate and execute a multifaceted law enforcement strategy aimed at dismantling Mafia operations and curbing gang violence. Delegates are tasked with developing specific initiatives, such as increased intelligence gathering, targeted law enforcement operations, and legislative measures to empower agencies in combating organized crime. Balancing the need for aggressive action with safeguarding civil liberties is of paramount importance.

JCC - Mafia Syndicate Committee

The Mafia Syndicate Committee aims to consolidate and expand its influence in the face of heightened government scrutiny. Delegates must strategize to protect existing criminal enterprises, forge alliances with other criminal factions, and navigate internal power struggles. The objective is to strengthen the Mafia's grip on key sectors, such as labor unions and businesses, while concurrently countering the government's efforts to dismantle the syndicate. Coordination and adaptability are vital for the Mafia committee to maintain and extend its criminal empire.
