Position Papers

Position Papers are optional for all of our committees. However, if you would like to be eligible for a research award for our General Assembly Committee, please submit position papers by Feb 16th. Please click the link below to submit your position paper. Position papers must be at least 2 pages, and must be in MLA format.

Position Paper Guidelines

Topic Background

Your topic background must:

-Define the problem

-Explain what led to the problem

-Explain who is affected

-Provide relevant context

-Showcase an additional understanding of the issue

Past UN Action

Your past UN action must:

-Explain what the UN has done in the past to combat the problem and how it has affected different countries

-Critique the UN's past solutions

-Define specific solutions that the UN has passed or not passed

Country Policy

Your country policy must:

-Explain your country's views on the topic

-Explain your country's policies

-Explain how your country is impacted by the problem

Possible Solutions

Your possible solutions are the most important part of your position paper, and must:

-Explain how this problem could be solved with the UN's resources

-Explain incentives, timeframes, specific goals, and other relevant information

Works Cited

DO NOT FORGET to include your works cited, as not including them will count as plagiarism. Position papers with no works cited will not be considered for research awards. Your works cited section must also follow MLA format.
